At Drake, we would never suggest that we know everything there is to know about every field of engineering. We’d be kidding ourselves (and our clients) if we suggested otherwise.
But what we do know for certain is that engineers aren’t like the machines they often work with - where specs can tell the whole story. Qualifications might be essential, but hugely important soft skills like communication, teamwork, and receptiveness to change, aren’t the kinds of things that you can take an exam in. And they’re notoriously difficult to determine from CVs and interviews
This is why we developed our unique Drake P3 Personality Profiling System - which many consider to be the best workplace profiling system in the world.
But of course engineering recruitment is not just all about finding the right kinds of personalities to fill roles . Technology is driving change in this incredibly diverse field quicker than most.
In order to compete, new skills need to be learned all the time just to keep pace. And we need to try to keep abreast of these changes as much as we can.
In fact, this is something Drake’s been focused on in the recruitment industry for over 70 years since the company’s inception in Canada. You don’t survive that long by sitting still. You need to be constantly looking ahead.
In Drake’s Recent Reads below, we feature just some of the most interesting articles we’ve read recently about where engineering and the workplace might be heading in the future.
The future is exciting and hopefully we can be part of yours.
What does your future look like?
We can help you get there.

Highlight for us: SpaceX’s reusable Starship spacecraft could reach most destinations within 30 minutes and anywhere on Earth within an hour. It could carry up to 150 tonnes of cargo, or several hundred passengers!
Kayt Sukel, American Society of Civil Engineers
Noteworthy point: Not only is there is a recognised industry shortage of engineers, but the lack of available engineering technicians to support them is really impacting how quickly big projects can be delivered.

Interesting fact: The properties of the jelly batteries make them promising for future use in biomedical implants, since they are soft and mould to human tissue.
